Days 81

Our night at Pioneer Camp brought memories flying in.  However, it had obviously changed hands in the last 32 years and all the animal mounts in the bar had been taken down.  We met a really nice Zimbo who had picked up some German tourists for a tour in Zambia, and actually has a really good friend in Richards Bay!  What a small world.

The campsite was good, electricity and wifi and decent ablutions.  We hit the sack early as we needed to go through the capital city in the morning and get to Mazabuko at a reasonable hour.

Day 82

Rob and Sandy, who we had played many, many years of hockey with in Zululand, are on a sugar farm just outside Mazabuko.  We had made a commitment to see them in lieu of camping in Monze for a night.  What a great decision ... good company, fantastic food (our first roast lamb in three months!), a never ending supply of Mosi's, and a very comfortable bed.  We were loath to move on .....  Thanks once again Sandy and Rob for a fabulous stay over.  We shall def be back with the fisherman sister after she retires next year!!

Day 83 & 84

From Mazabuko we left for Livingstone, where we stayed for two nights - doing the bridge thing at the border and reminiscing about our trip with our youngest son and my sister almost six years ago.  How time flies.

The water was very low and there was no water on the Zambian side of the falls.  There was a bit on the Zim side, but definitely not worth visiting.

Day 85

Crossing the border at Kazangula was a blast.  First border crossing on a ferry and probably the last.  The bridge spanning the Zambezi is well under way and I'm sure will be finished by the time we return north.
Arriving on the Botswana side of the river.  You can see the bridge that is being built in the background.

It was also one of the fastest border crossings in a long while.

Day 86

We arrived in Kasane around lunchtime, so decided to do the cruise into Chobe in the afternoon.  We had done this on many occasions in the past and really enjoyed it, and this one was no different.  A lovely time spent on the water.

We had planned to move on to Woodlands, just 15 km's north of Francistown, but because we left early we decided to push on a try and find a place closer to the SA border.

We arrived at Palapye, a mining 'village', to find every shop you could possibly want to find and an extremely pleasant campsite, "Itembule".  Highly recommended!

Day 87 - 91

We made our way to Hartbeespoort in South Africa the next morning, where we would be staying with my oldest sister.  We needed repairs done to the camper after all the awful roads up north, and Pretoria was just up the drag - bargain.  We spent almost a week in Pretoria before moving on to say hi to my Mother and then on to spend the weekend with my older sister in Piet Retief on route home.

The unpacking once we got home took quite a few days, as everything had to be scrubbed and polished so to say - you cannot believe how the dust just gets into everything!

If you have followed this blog, we really hope that you have enjoyed our experiences with us.  Until next time .....................
